Millions of women and men are bothered by unsightly spider veins on their faces and legs.

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are those small red, blue and purple blood vessels that appear most frequently on the face, thighs and legs. Bluish or green larger vessels called reticular veins feed these smaller spider veins and are best treated with Sclerotherapy.  This is accomplished by injection of a sclerosing solution, such as Asclera (polidocanol) that will cause the vein to collapse and be removed by the body over a period of 6-12 weeks.  The remaining spider veins are easily treated with a 1064 Yag vascular laser for easy closure.

Varicose veins are usually larger than 1/4 inch in diameter and may appear raised with a bluish color. They may also be related to more serious vein disorders and require a careful evaluation by your doctor prior to treatment. Dr. Caglia performs laser spider vein removal and other vascular lesions for patients from the Dallas and DFW areas including the surrounding cities of Plano, Allen, Frisco, Mckinney, Southlake, Grapevine, Rockwall, and White Rock, DFW, Euless, Bedford, Fort Worth, Irving, Garland, Mesquite, Texas.

Vein Removal

Today's new medical lasers provide safe and effective non-surgical spider vein treatment options for the removal of spider, reticular and varicose veins. Dr. Caglia performs new advanced laser treatments for patients from Dallas, Richardson, Frisco, Allen, Plano, Garland, Addison, Mesquite, Fort Worth and throughout Texas to remove those unsightly veins. During your treatment, light energy is delivered through a special laser handpiece to the targeted vein, in a series of brief pulses. The light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, but not the surrounding tissue. This heat absorption causes a coagulation or vaporization of the blood in the vessel, which is subsequently absorbed by your body over a few weeks.

Will Laser Vein Removal work on my veins?

Prior to treatment at we will review your medical history to determine how long you have had a problem with your veins and the severity of the problem. We need to determine your skin type and if there has been any prior surgery or treatment on your veins. We test with a hand held doppler to determine if there are any underlying venous problems with larger vessels. If there are, further testing may be advised before laser vein therapy is attempted.

What is the laser vein treatment like?

First, we identify the veins to be treated. We then proceed to deliver pulses of light (laser) energy along the length of the vessel, larger veins first. However, most cases we will probably use injection sclerotherapy with (Asclera) polidocanol on the larger vessels and procede with laser treatment with the smaller vessels.

The light energy causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessels, which are then absorbed by your body. Most laser therapy patients report little discomfort. On the face some patients experience a mild burning sensation when we pulse the laser and on the legs where the vessels are deeper they feel a sting like that of a rubber band.  Generally, sclerotherapy is used on the larger vessels of the leg and the smaller spider veins are treated with the laser for closure.  Remember the larger veins feed the smaller ones so you have to treat the larger ones first with sclerotherapy, then the smaller ones with the laser.

How many vein treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required varies with the size and depth of each vein. For the maximum long-term resolution, multiple treatments may be necessary. However, if new veins appear, additional treatments are required. Treatments may be in 2 - 4 week intervals.

Are there other treatments available for spider and varicose veins?

Yes. Laser vein therapy may be combined with injection sclerotherapy.

During sclerotherapy a sclerosing solution (Asclera) or Polidocanol, is injected into the vein through a micro-needle.The tiny needles generally cause very little discomfort. The sclerosing solution causes the vein to blanch (turn white), then gradually disappear. A typical treatment may last for 15 - 30 minutes and consist of multiple injections.  Dr. Caglia can best inform you concerning the number of injections and the time periods of each treatment after your consultation and the need for compression hose.

What is recovery like?

After Dr. Caglia performs your laser treatment for varicose veins at Derm Aesthetics & Laser Center, you may be asked to wear compression hose or special heavy duty stockings to help keep pressure on the veins for 10-14 days. This will help keep the treated veins closed. Bruises around the treated areas, if the occur, usually disappear after the first few weeks. A tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks to months when larger veins are involved. While each vein may require several pulses from the laser, most will disappear in 4-8 weeks. Keys to success with laser leg vein therapy include the avoidance of hot baths and strenuous high impact exercise and include the short-term use of compression stockings.

Patients are generally encouraged to resume most normal activities immediately. We do ask that you refrain from vigorous activities for the first 24 hours. Although your final results may not be apparent for several months, most of our patients enjoy the comfort and the look of legs without unsightly red, blue and purple veins.
